loganandliz.com: the mishaps of the mr. and mrs.

Since I was off for Columbus Day today, I thought it would be a good idea to schedule a physical so I could get in at our new doctor at Northwestern Medical Center.  I was hoping he’d be as hot as the last two, but no such luck.  Definitely attractive, but definitely not hot like my Dr. Bob!  I was a little apprehensive b/c I LOVED my last doctor (”Slatts”) and am hoping to find a suitable replacement.  Turns out the new guys is very kind, thorough and professionsal.  Guess that’s more important than being hot anyway.

After I went through my laundry list of issues and medications, he decided that it would be a good idea for me to get a flu shot.  Ugh.  After the whole “How big is the needle?” discussion, I finally agreed.  He came back, did the whole gown-physical part, and said most things looked good.  But there’s always room for improvement I suppose, so he also added in lose weight, take calcium supplements, wear sunscreen, exercise, you know…the usual. Oh, and then he ordered an MRI of my neck and an ultrasound (stomach issues) for precautionary reasons which means more time off work, co-pays, calls to schedule appointments, annoying bus rides with very audible tourists b/c of the holiday…wait - maybe that last one was an isolated issue.  Either way, Ugh.

Okay, back to the story… Then, the nurse came back in for the shot, and I was totally brave.  I was super proud of myself! Unfortunately when I want to have my blood drawn, I was not as brave.  I had been fasting (it was 12:30 by this point) and am a little queasy with shots in general.  She must have sensed my apprehension or saw the light-headedness in my eyes, as she wouldn’t let me look, and advised me to get some juice as soon as I was finished.  I’ve been known to pass out a time or two in doctor’s offices so I heeded her advice and stopped at the Corner Bakery in the lobby of the building.  Probably a good thing.

Anyway, so I get home, and by about two o’clock, I was running a low grade fever. Typical with the flu shot.  It’s now 9:30, and I have a higher fever and feel like garbage.  I think there’s even a porcupine in my “froat”.  Even Mom’s old “cool rag” trick isn’t helping this one.  Can someone please remind me why this is a good thing?
