loganandliz.com: the mishaps of the mr. and mrs.

Everyone and their mom that reads this blog probably knows that I’ve always wanted to write for TV. And while I did for a while in a former life at Heartland Wrestling Association, many people don’t consider that legit experience. With the urging from my supportive better half, I decided that I was finally going to sit down and try to write a “spec script.” I don’t want to bore you with the details of trying to get an agent to represent you and all that garbage, but you’ve got to write a script for an existing show to prove that you can write within existing parameters (character, storylines, style, etc.) When picking a show to “spec,” I considered many options. They say to write something that’s relatively new so the storylines aren’t exhausted, but something that has been around long enough that people consider successful. Liz suggested “Ugly Betty.”

I had never seen a single episode. So, I bought season one on DVD. Its witty writing, over-the-top characters and all-around dramatics are all perfect fits. It features the cartoonic elements on par with Monday Night Raw, combined with the backstabbing antics of, well, the industry I work in. In just a few weeks, I’ve taken in all 23 episodes of season one. As season two begins this week, I’ll be tuning in to see what’s going on in the crazy world of Mode magazine and the mischievous Meade family so that I can begin crafting my own episode. I’m not sure that what I create will ever go further than my computer screen, but I know I’ll have a lot of fun trying.

Good luck! I’ve been waiting for this too.

Something to say?
